The Las Vegas Raiders are in quite the pickle. Competing in the AFC West is tough, let alone the AFC in the NFL today. Las Vegas is not in contention for a Super Bowl, but theoretically, they could win the AFC West. They’re in the worst spot possible, being mediocre, they won’t get a great pick, but can’t entirely compete. So that begs the question, should they start the rebuild this year by trading star wide receiver Davante Adams?
ESPN NFL insider Dan Graziano recently made this not-so-bold assumption that the Raiders could move their star receiver.
“I’m not saying they’ll trade him. I don’t know if they’d even consider it,” he said. “But the Raiders are likely going to be terrible this season, and Adams went there to play with a quarterback who got benched before Adams’ first season with the team ended and is now in New Orleans.”
“If he doesn’t believe he fits in the Jimmy Garoppolo-led offense, and if the Raiders’ season gets off to a bad start, Adams could absolutely start making noise about wanting out. And coach Josh McDaniels has never been shy about trading away players he doesn’t believe fit his program.”
Saying Adams has a zero chance of being in a different jersey by the end of the year is sort of puzzling. Looking at the Raiders’ schedule, it isn’t easy, but with Garoppolo and Josh McDaniels looking to rebound from poor years, the Raiders have no reason to be completely out of contention.
Here it gets weird. Only a few months ago, Las Vegas shipped off superstar tight end Darren Waller for practically nothing. Now, they signed their star running back Josh Jacobs to only a one-year deal when they could have easily signed him to a long-term extension. This comes when the NFL running back market has reached an all-time low.
If the Raiders collapse in the midst of this season, yes, Adams could definitely be in a different uniform this season, but based on their previous moves, it doesn’t make a lot of sense what exactly the Raiders are trying to do. After all, they’re a poverty franchise, but what do you think the Las Vegas Raiders will do? Let us know in the comments below.
