Will Another Streaming Service Pick Up ‘Winning Time’?
I finally finished season two of ‘Winning Time’. HBO tragically canceled a really good series after two seasons. Now that I’ve finished season two, I want to dive into whether or not another network will pick up the series.
A: It’s way too good to cancel. The rivalry between Magic Johnson and Larry Bird saved the NBA. The producers also did a fantastic job at making the show entertaining. This series could easily be saved by another streaming platform.
B: You could tell that season two was rushed. It was almost like the people within the show knew they were running out of time. They skipped too much stuff during that season. Seven episodes somehow covered multiple seasons when season one only covered Magic’s rookie season. That’s the part that’s going to make it the hardest challenge to save. It’s almost like they will need to redo the entire second season if they want to bring the show back.
C: Even with that said, there is so much this show can cover moving forward. You have the Magic HIV diagnosis. You have all the meetings between the Lakers and Celtics in the finals. You can even have the series stretch so long that Jeanie takes over into the Kobe years.
Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Disney+, Peacock, etc. There are so many trash shows out there. A smart network will pick this up and rebuild it the right way. It’s too good of a concept to totally give up on. This is coming from a Celtics fan writing this blog.
