Why Pat McAfee Might Retire From ESPN College GameDay

Is Pat McAfee already questioning his fit with ESPN? Is he actually bothered by fan backlash? If you enjoy McAfee’s presence on ESPN College GameDay, savor it while it lasts. It sure sounds like the former Colts punter could opt to retire from College GameDay.

A reader survey from The Athletic revealed that 48.9 percent of people said they “don’t like” McAfee on GameDay. 30.1% responded that they liked him.

McAfee then responded with a long message about how he was bothered by the survey.

I’m just going to wrap up with this.

A: This is a bit of a Charmin Ultra Soft move by McAfee. Who cares what a handful of people say? I’m not comparing myself to him but I get an insane amount of hateful messages every day. That’s not going to prevent me from doing something that I think is right. If McAfee quits GameDay because of a survey, that’s so embarrassing.

B: Why would anyone care what The Athletic publishes? That entire publication is trash and only has notoriety because they had a bunch of rich investors and then were bailed out by the New York Times. The company still hasn’t turned a profit. To even acknowledge their content has any relevance is pathetic.

Let’s hear from you in the comments. Personally, I think McAfee is good on GameDay and certainly provides a spark of energy. I don’t have any complaints with him on that program. Are you in that same boat or do you think he should be removed from the show?
