Why Everyone Should Still Believe In Trevor Lawrence

It hasn’t been an ideal start for Trevor Lawrence at the NFL level. We’re going to talk about why everyone should still be a believer. (Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports)

Why Everyone Should Still Believe In Trevor Lawrence

Football is a team game. Impatience will often kill you in fantasy football if you let it. I’m going to say something that should be obvious but apparently isn’t. Everyone should still believe in Trevor Lawrence and you’re dumb if you’re not. If you’re selling your Lawrence stock, I’ll take it.

People forget how the NFL works. It repeats itself a lot. What is the quarterback inheriting? Patrick Mahomes got Andy Reid. Trevor Lawrence got Urban Meyer. We all know how that went.

Lawrence’s rookie season was basically a redshirt college season. It means nothing and that’s exactly how we should view it. Then in year two as a 23-year-old, he led a Jacksonville team that won one game before he arrived to an AFC South title while finishing 7th in MVP voting.

Do we understand how hard that is? By the way, that’s while playing for Doug Pederson who makes you carry the offense while bringing zero team toughness to the table.

This is the player that people are telling you to give up on.

Progression isn’t always linear. Winning at the NFL level is hard. Lawrence was clearly hurt last year. He still played 16 games and threw for over 4,000 yards and 21 touchdowns with a horrendous offensive line, a sprained ankle, and a separated shoulder. You try doing that with those injuries.

Jacksonville wisely made improvements to the offensive line. Ezra Cleveland and Mitch Morse were brought in for free agency. The team drafted Javon Foster (who I was high on). Cam Robinson and Brandon Scherff are still there. Anton Harrison should take a step forward from his rookie season too. The Jags turned over their entire staff too.

People seem to have short memories of what Lawrence coming out of Clemson. He was viewed as a generational prospect. 6-foot-6 with a rocket arm and fast. Oh, and basically never lost a game in college.

Look, I understand that most people that cover sports never competed in anything in their life. For a guy that’s this talented, adversity might be the best thing that’s ever happened to Lawrence. We’re talking about a guy that’s never been doubted in his life. If Lawrence is a competitor, he will come back stronger.

We forget that the NFL is for grown men. Andrew Thomas is probably the best left tackle in the league and he sucked as a rookie. It takes time for people to grow into their NFL bodies. Lawrence hasn’t been able take advantage of his legs because he keeps getting hurt. Something that should change as he starts to enter his real prime. Josh Allen was similar. He made plays in the ground game early in his career but now he’s viewed as a guy you can’t tackle. These things take time.

What’s been the problem with Lawrence? They can’t protect him and he hasn’t been able to make big plays down the field. Jacksonville has spent a ton of money on weapons and drafted Brian Thomas Jr. to win those deep balls.

If you don’t want the age 25 season of Trevor Lawrence, feel free to give it to me.

Trevor Lawrence will be a top ten quarterback in fantasy football for the 2024-25 NFL Season. Book it. This will be the cheapest price you ever get on Lawrence so if you miss out, good luck trying to get him next year in keeper leagues.

Head the warning.
