Why Are The Nets Obsessed With DeAndre Jordan?

Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and DeAndre Jordan? From the start, the Brooklyn Nets have prioritized Jordan as their third guy in a mission that has never really made any sense. The former Clippers, Mavericks, and Knicks center signed a 4-year contract worth $40 million this offseason. It’s one thing to overpay Jordan to appease other stars, it’s another to mess with the development of younger players.

Jarrett Allen is starting to get cast aside for Jordan. The team has opted to finish out games with Jordan over Allen. Kevin Durant isn’t healthy. Neither is Kyrie Irving. YET… Jordan is the guy who is finishing games over Allen.

Brian Lewis of the New York Post recently wrote a post about how the Nets want DeAndre Jordan to get crunch time minutes. Allen did his best to not start a fire but you know this has to be bothering him.

“You get the feeling of what’s going to happen when you hit around the eight-minute mark, whether you’re going to go in or not,” Allen relayed to Lewis. “If they’re vibing then go ahead and let them vibe let them let them go out and win it. So I’m not tripping over that.”

In my opinion, I think this is a huge mistake. While the two are pretty close statistically, one guy is 21 and the other is 31. Allen has a chance to develop into one of the best centers in the league. The other guy is only going to decline.

It would be one thing if the Nets could win the title this year. Both of their stars are out. Don’t you want to find out if Allen is worth investing in long term? Allen hits restricted free agency after next season and will become extension eligible after this season. What are the Nets doing? Better question… what do the Nets owe DeAndre Jordan?
