Andrew Wiggins Is A Better Fit Than D’Angelo Russell For Warriors

When the Golden State Warriors traded D’Angelo Russell away for Andrew Wiggins, a lot of people were wondering what the Warriors were doing. I thought that was the right decision for the Warriors. Andrew Wiggins is a much better fit for the Warriors than DLo. Sure, some would have DLo as a better player than Wiggins. That is a completely fair take, hell, I might even feel that way. But positionally, this works out much better for the Warriors. There is a concern with Andrew Wiggins’ contract, because Jesus, it is bad. That might be the only thing I really do not like about the trade.

Andrew Wiggins Stats

Andrew Wiggins really isn’t that far behind D’Angelo Russell in terms of production. Wiggins averages 22.5 PPG on 45.3% shooting. He averages one point less than D’Angelo Russell but shoots 2.4% more efficiently. Given that he is taller than DLo, Wiggins averages more rebounds than him. Wiggins averages 5 RPG, which is 1.3 more than DLo. D’Angelo Russell does average more assists than him being that he is a guard. DLo averages almost 3 more assists than Wiggins.

The stats were too show that the difference in production is not entirely too different. Yet, the Warriors won this trade in my honest opinion. As good as DLo is, Steph Curry, DLo, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and a top 5 pick which will be a big man, is a great lineup that can score. But the backcourt will be vulnerable on defense since Curry and Russell are no defenders in the slightest. A lineup of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, Draymond Green, and that same top 5 pick gives up a little more of their scoring output but is much better defensively.

It also works out best for Andrew Wiggins because he’s not expected to be the number one option or second option. He will be looked at as more of a 3rd or even 4th option. Andrew Wiggins as that option takes the pressure off of him and still makes that team dangerous. The Warriors 1-year rebuild keeps looking better and better. They’re my pick to win the championship next year. Just stay tuned.
