The fast food corporation Kentucky Fried Chicken, known as KFC, first officially announced the KFConsole in December 2020.
KFC collaborated with popular custom PC hardware company Cooler Master in the creation of this console, elevating it to a PC standard. The console comes with an Intel Nuc 9 Extreme Compute Element for “keeping space down and driving performance”. Additionally, it comes with Asus-powered graphics and a hot-swappable GPU slot. Equally important, Two Seagate® BarraCuda® 1TB SSD’s also come with the console, allowing for plenty of storage. These elements result in VR ready gameplay, supporting 240fps for all games and even 240Hz output on 4k displays.
In addition, this is all coupled with the KFC patented Chicken Chamber.
The Chicken Chamber is a built-in chicken warmer inside the console. According to Cooler Master, it works by “Utilizing the system’s natural heat and airflow system,” and “you can now focus on your gameplay and enjoy hot, crispy chicken between rounds”.
Uniquely based on a custom build of Cooler Master’s NC100 chassis, it mirrors KFC’s bargain bucket. The heating element functions on the heat generated by the console. The KFConsole possibly uses up to 600-700 watts of power, which would then convert into heat for the Chicken Chamber. Done correctly, this could be an extremely innovative, although random, design feature.
Design-wise, it features a sleek black design. The red power button is located on the front, along with an opening, which must be the Chicken Chamber itself.
There is not much known about the alleged KFConsole, which begs the question, is it real?
As of now, there are no official release dates for pre-order. The closest release date was a tease originally posted in February 2021.
KFC’s collaboration with Cooler Master gives them credibility, but with such limited information and lack of pre-order release dates, the future for the KFConsole is very much in the air.
The estimated cost for this console with the alleged specs runs for $2000. This cost would be difficult for consumers to want to buy. The competitors, Xbox and Playstation, both run for a smaller cost at $499 and $399-$499, respectively.
However, both Xbox and Playstation can’t keep your chicken warm while you game.
In conclusion, the KFConsole is not a reality at the moment. However, with the alleged specs and potential Chicken Chamber, fans may be pleasantly surprised with the fast food company’s console. Until the KFConsole becomes a reality, fans and gamers alike will have to simply imagine the rumored specs and Chicken Chamber.
