We All Know Why The USA Men’s Team Will Never Win The World Cup
The United States simply cannot compete with other countries across the world when it comes to soccer. The women’s team dominates but the men cannot stack up with the other great European powers. Jerry Walker has been doing a great job reviewing the World Cup teams this year. It’s just plainly obvious why we will never win the World Cup and it’s really not anyone’s fault.
I’m sure someone has a study out there on why the USA men underachieve at soccer. In reality, we don’t need one because any rational person with a brain already understands why this happens. If you don’t get it, let me spell it out for you quickly.
Cristiano Ronaldo plays soccer. So does Rafael Leao. So does Nuno Mendes. Just using Portugal as an example here.
Does Portugal produce top end NFL talent? How about any pro basketball players running around? How about famous race car drivers? Still no? The top athletes in Portugal are the men’s National team.
If we wanted to, we could dominate in soccer too. How bout this squad. Good luck boxing out LeBron James when he goes up for a header. What do you think would happen if Tyreek Hill committed his life to playing soccer? Could you imagine trying to not let Hill beat you on a through ball?
Maybe this turned into a pro Tyreek Hill blog but the point still remains. If we wanted to dominate in soccer, we could. Our best athletes are just picking other sports as youths and it’s hard to blame them.
The MLS stinks. It’s never going to be any better than a retirement league for the top players in Europe. Just the way that it is. Any talented kid here has the option to either ditch his family to go play overseas or pick a sport where they might have a real future here.
Even someone who’s oozing with talent like Kyler Murray chooses to become a multi-sport athlete in baseball over soccer. Several high-profile athletes have gone the baseball route as their secondary sport. If soccer isn’t gobbling up those guys, we’re never going to beat the top-end teams in the World Cup.
Nobody is saying the USA Men’s National Team is totally off the hook. I still expect wins over Caribbean nations that carry 5% of our population. It’s just ridiculous to suggest it’s title or bust for the USA team at the World Cup. When Justin Jefferson chooses soccer instead of football, maybe we will have a chance. Just don’t count your chickens on that ever happening.
