Wayne Gretzky Steps Away From Edmonton Oilers To Join TNT
Today, NHL hall of famer, Wayne Gretzky stepped back as Vice Chairmen of the Edmonton Oilers.
“The Oilers, their fans, and the city of Edmonton have meant the world to me and my family for over four decades- and that will never change”. He reassured his followers.
Gretzky, former captain of the Oilers, joined the organization in the front offices in 2016. He worked very closely with the owner, Daryl Katz. He also worked with the Oilers Entertainment Group who owns a share of the team. They also own and operate Rogers Place, the home of the Oilers.
“I want to thank Daryl & Renee Katz, their family and the entire team for all of their support and friendship over these last several years, and wish them nothing but success”
The NHL recently announced a future partnership with TNT. There was a lot of speculation that Gretsky could have a broadcasting or analysis role in the coming seasons. These rumors have been confirmed by ESPN and SportsNet.
The news of his departure has come less than 24 hours after Edmonton was swept by the Winnipeg Jets; a huge upset in the North Division.
