Walter Nolen Enters Transfer Portal
Texas A&M defensive lineman Walter Nolen has entered the transfer portal, Hayes Fawcett of ON3 was the first to report the news Monday. Nolen will be one of the highest-touted transfers this portal season.
Nolen was one of the best recruits in recent memory. In 247 Sports’ 2022 Composite Rankings, Nolen was the No. 2 player in the country behind Travis Hunter.
Nolen lived up to his recruiting ranking. In two seasons at Texas A&M, he was a game wrecker on the defensive front. As an Aggie, Nolen logged 66 total tackles, five sacks and 11 tackles for a loss.
That combination of recruiting profile and production makes Nolen one of the best available players in the transfer portal. According to the 247 Sports Transfer Portal Rankings, Nolen is the No. 1 player in the portal. At this point, he is one of the few difference-makers available on the defensive line.
Nolen will have two years of eligibility remaining; however, it is reasonable to expect that he will leave for the NFL after next season.
Nolen will likely be able to transfer to any team in the country. That caliber of player is rarely available on the open market. Furthermore, Nolen should be able to earn a chunk of NIL money as he selects a new school.
Texas A&M is currently under a lot of change. Mike Elko is set to take over the program after Jimbo Fisher‘s firing. A mass exodus should be expected when a new head coach enters the building. Unfortunately, for Texas A&M, that means losing former five-star recruits. Nolen will be the biggest loss, however.
