Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Named MLB The Show 24 Cover Athlete
San Diego Studios officially revealed that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will grace the cover of MLB The Show 24 on Tuesday. It came about in the beautiful “Ride to The Reveal” mini-documentary in the Dominican Republic, with the help of David Ortiz and rapper Eladio Carrión.
Guerrero Jr. is one of the best young stars in baseball and is the face of the franchise with the Toronto Blue Jays. In five seasons, Guerrero Jr. has won a Silver Slugger, Gold Glove and is a three-time All-Star at only entering his age-25 season.
Guerrero Jr. is not who I was expecting to be the cover athlete for this year’s game. I commend San Diego Studios for going with Vlad, however. Being able to reach that Canadian market as well as the Latino community is a genius marketing strategy. Overall, the cover itself looks amazing with the collage of baby blue, red and white–one of the best covers they have made to date.
While some fans are up in arms about SDS’s selection for MLB The Show 24’s cover. I do not hold a lot of weight in who they have on the cover; as long as it is visually appealing, I’m okay with any potential choices.
What We Learned About The Show 24:
SDS did not give away a lot of info on the game yet. However, we learned that MLB The Show 24 is releasing on March 19. I will also note that it will be on current and old-gen consoles, which is a bit concerning to how much of a leap the game may take in gameplay and visual improvements.
In addition, SDS revealed the content schedule with the Collector’s edition of the game being revealed on Feb. 6th. After that feature premiere live streams and updates will take us to launch day. My hope is that Ortiz will grace the cover with his involvement in the cover reveal.
