Vincent Kompany, the Manchester City and Belgium legend, is getting closer to joining Bayern Munich as their new manager. After their first trophyless season in over a decade, the German giants are targeting the Burnley boss as their new man in charge. Insider Fabrizio Romano revealed the news yesterday:
This is a surprising hire for many. Not only did he relegate Burnley this season after finishing 19th in the Premier League, but he is also quite young. At 38, he retired from playing in 2020 and even competed against many of the current Bayern players. Harry Kane, Thomas Muller, and even playing with Leroy Sane to name a few. Despite the fans hoping the club would retain the former Champions League winner, Bayern is clearly moving in a different direction from Tuchel.
Obviously, Kompany is one of the greatest defenders in Premier League history. He has flown up the managerial ranks since starting at his boyhood club Anderlecht. Spending his final years at Manchester City in Pep Guardiola’s locker room is certainly a factor into this hire and subsequent style of play. The Bavarians will of course get anyone they want to join and it’s either a move that’s ahead of the curve or could result in some more embarrassment.
Kompany and Bayern will be working hard to regain their Bundesliga crown after Xabi Alonso’s stunning season with Bayer Leverkusen. It did end with a sting for them in the Europa League final but with the Spaniard content to stay, the club ought to continue building in the transfer market regardless of who decides to leave.
Even with Munich reaching the Semi-Finals of the Champions League and arguably being jobbed by the officials, their sky-high standards are currently at the floor. They need 2023/2024 to be an aberration rather than a new trend. There’s a chance it even turns from insult to injury if their sworn rival Borussia Dortmund prevails over Real Madrid in the final.
Bayern Munich has moved swiftly towards a new replacement for Thomas Tuchel. The German giants are closing in on Vincent Kompany to bring them forward.
