In what has been one of the wildest NBA free agency classes, the Miami Heat have decided to trade another guard. Victor Oladipo is heading back home to his former team, the Oklahoma City Thunder, after being traded from the Miami Heat, as first reported by Shams Charania.
He is back in Oklahoma City, folks. Oladipo is returning to OKC for the first time since the 2016-17 season. He may not be the same player due to injuries, but his spirit will never change.
During the 2016-17 season, Oladipo found a temporary home. Before being stung by the injury bug, Oladipo was a prolific scorer, averaging 16 points per game on 44% from the field and 36% from deep. The 31-year-old added on four rebounds and three assists per game.
After he suffered a horrible injury in the first-round of the playoffs this season, Oladipo showed his incredible levels of maturity. Head coach Erik Spoelstra made comments on Oladipo’s injury and mentality after the game.
“Yes, there are injuries. That is a part of this game. We understand that,” Spoelstra said to reporters Sunday. “But the human side of it, when you see somebody that’s overcome so much and he’s done it time and time and time again, and he always does it with an incredibly positive spirit and a smile on his face – even last night … that’s why I admire him so much.”
Last season, Oladipo averaged around 11 points per game on 40% from the field and 33% from three. Aside from his scoring ability, Oladipo was able to grab three rebounds per game and around four assists per game.
Can Oladipo make a big impact in his return to OKC? Let us know in the comments.
