Max Strus agrees to four-year, $63 million with Cleveland Cavaliers

After a outbreak in the playoffs, the undrafted Max Strus has gotten paid. Strus has agreed to a four-year $63 million sign-and-trade to the Cleveland Cavaliers. In this three-team deal, the Miami Heat will acquire a second-round pick. In return from the Cavaliers, the Spurs will acquire Cedi Osman, Lamar Stevens, and a second-round pick. Adrian Wojnarowski was first to report the news.

This free agency, the Cleveland Cavaliers, have made a splash, as they look to add to their championship hopeful roster. Adding Strus to a team that struggled with shooting is a big win for Cleveland, and a backup to their already star-studded backcourt in Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland is even better.

Last season, Strus averaged around a cool 12 points for the Miami Heat, a continued improvement from his previous seasons. Strus added on three rebounds and two assists per game while shooting 41 percent from the field and 35 percent from deep.

Outside of his offensive firepower, Strus is also reliable on defense. The former DePaul guard moved ahead of guys like Duncan Robinson in the Heat’s rotation for his ability to defend.

Cedi Osman, the other main piece in this trade, is headed to San Antonio. Osman’s role in Cleveland has slowly gone out of sight in the past few years, making him a piece in this trade. Osman averaged around nine points per game last season with the Cavaliers along with two rebounds and two assists.

With this move, the Cavaliers secure their backcourt of the future in Strus, Garland, Mitchell and now Georges Niang, who recently signed with the Cavaliers this free agency.

Do the Cavaliers have enough firepower to make a deeper playoff push this season? Let us know in the comments.
