VGK Hire Bruce Cassidy
The Golden Knights have found their next head coach. After letting go of Pete DeBoer, Bruce Cassidy will be the next head man for the VGK. Once Cassidy was let go by the Bruins, it appears that Vegas circled Cassidy as their guy ending the coaching search before any other team.
Kevin Weekes at ESPN was the first to report the news:
While Vegas may be viewed as short sided and overly aggressive in firing DeBoer, the hiring of Cassidy should be viewed as a logical choice. Cassidy, 57, had a winning percentage of .672 with the Bruins over the course of six years. The Bruins were obviously a talented team, but Don Sweeney probably should have been the one to go after his awful track record of signing free agents and drafting talent.
The Knights are in win now mode so it’s not hard to see why Cassidy was interested in this job. Mark Stone, Jack Eichel, Max Pacioretty, Alex Pietrangelo, and Shea Theodore is a pretty good landing spot for a coach that just lost his job not too long ago.
Cassidy will become the third head coach in the history of the Golden Knights franchise. If we have learned anything from this franchise, the pressure is on right away. Otherwise, Cassidy will find himself back on the unemployment line if Vegas doesn’t find themselves back in the playoffs this upcoming year.
Cassidy is a really good coach. He may be a bit of a hard ass and often looks miserable on the bench. However, the track record speaks for itself. Vegas hired a no-nonsense guy that has a system that has had sustained success in the league.
