Our partners at SimBull introduced a new contest this season called the “SimBull Six” and Karl Heiser and Adam Krieger will give you our picks each week. Last week we went 4-2, making us an even 21-21 on the season so far. To date, Karl is 14-7 and Adam is 7-14. Here are our Week 8 picks.
Pick: Michigan State (+4.5)
Our guy Ryan had a great write-up about the stakes of this game for both teams. This in-state rivalry has never felt bigger for either program, so in this game I am going to have to take the Spartans at home. It’s relatively simple in my mind: take the home underdog in the rivalry game and hope they can keep it within a field goal.
Pick: Auburn (-2.5)
My picks have been so bad I am resorting to gimmicks to try and get wins. At the time I am writing this, over 80% of the picks submitted are for Ole Miss. I don’t love Bo Nix, but I am fading the public here in hopes that Auburn can get the job done and prove the suckers wrong.
Pick: Ohio State (-18.5)
Ohio State took their loss early in the year and have been on a mission ever since. This Penn State team is coming off an embarrassing loss to Illinois at home in 9OT. James Franklin told reporters he was “onto the Illini” despite the game already being over. Franklin might just be counting the seconds until the season is over so he can go live the LA lifestyle at USC. Buckeyes roll here.
Pick: Patriots (+5.5)
The Chargers have the worst run defense in the entire league and were exposed by the Baltimore Ravens two weeks ago. Bill Belichick will run all over them and he will have the defensive plan to keep this game under control. New England’s offense is in a good rhythm – they’ve scored at least 25 points in each of their last three games. Justin Herbert is having a great year but will be matched up against an all-time great defensive coach. Should be a close one.
Pick: Cowboys (-2.5)
Minnesota’s defensive line is awesome and will put pressure on Dak Prescott, but I don’t think it will matter. This Cowboys offense is legit. The Vikings offense has been very hit-or-miss, and the Cowboys get a ton of takeaways on defense. Dallas wins this one by a field goal or more.
Pick: Chiefs (-10)
I hate having to make this pick. If the Chiefs put up another terrible performance, this will likely be the last time I pick them to cover in one of these. Kansas City is so, so, so due for a big win. Bounce-back game for Patrick Mahomes, who is still the best quarterback in football despite what some might try to tell you. There isn’t a good reason to roll with the Chiefs right now, but I’m doing it anyway.
