It is a somber day for Star Wars fans as another Star Wars video game has been delayed. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake, a role-playing game that is based in the Star Wars universe, appears to be delayed indefinitely. The story of The Old Republic takes place years before the Skywalker saga and gives more insight into how the Jedi and Sith came to be. There was clear excitement among fans when it was originally announced that the game was being developed by Aspyr Media, but the future of the game is a bit cloudy at the moment.
Star Wars: The Old Republic Knights of The Fallen Empire was the last game in the series, and it was released in 2015. Though the time for fans to receive new content was approaching, there has been a huge change in leadership on the project. Aspyr Media recently fired two of the creative leads on the project which is a bad sign for the game going forward.
Aspyr Media fired art director Jason Minor and design director Brad Prince as the project appears to be on pause. This is not a good sign for Star Wars fans as the game appears to be put on the back burner as another delay not only hurts the game’s chances of being good, but it makes it harder for the game to even get released. The company will be looking for new creators and new contracts to salvage The Old Republic remake. Also, Aspyr media may be looking to move on from the project and Saber Interactive may take over as the lead developers.
A remake would give fans a way to enjoy the fun of the original while being amazed by the new graphics of the next-generation consoles. The Old Republic allows for mainstream fans to see new planets, new adventures, and, most importantly, new characters. That is the best part about The Old Republic is the incredible characters that were imperative for setting the foundation for the Jedi and Sith in the Star Wars Saga.
The characters Revan, Darth Malak, and Darth Nihilus are great characters that have plenty of history and stories which can be shown to a bigger Star Wars audience. They were fantastic in the original games, and I think they will be even better in a modern remake.
Ultimately, it is not clear if Star Wars fans will ever get some new Knights of the Old Republic content as the remake has been delayed ‘Indefinitely’. This is a shame as there are still so many stories to tell and adventures to be had in The Old Republic.
