It’s finally happening! Ladies and gentlemen, after numerous amounts of rumors, speculation, and wishful thinking, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is finally getting a much-needed facelift! Fans have been asking for a remaster for years, but now we are getting a full-fledged remake!

Now, I know MinnMax is the one that everyone is quoting, but I’ve gotta show some love to the man that really broke this story. MrMattyPlays on YouTube has been ALL OVER this story. Since the beginning of the year, Matty has been all over stories discussing job listings, leaks, and numerous of other indications that KOTOR was getting a remake or remastered. Back in February of this year, Matty even correctly predicted that it was Aspyr who was working on this project. Just wanted to make sure we got the record straight on who “really” broke the news.

An Absolute Masterpiece

With that out of the way, it’s time to fanboy. Knights of the Old Republic is absolutely one of my favorite games of all time. It’s up there with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Halo 3 as the masterpieces from my childhood. The setting is phenomenal, the characters are extremely well written, and the story as a whole isn’t just one of the greatest Star Wars stories, but legitimately one of the greatest video game stories to have been published in the history of video games. It’s a masterpiece.

But the game does not look pretty. I beat the game again as recently as last year, and boy is it hard on the eyes sometimes. Updating the graphics alone and not touching anything else would be great. But the word remake makes it sound like there will be more changes. I can get down with that. Games have progressed a ton since KOTOR’s initial release. Updating some of the mechanics and sounds could help bring in a younger audience. I’m not saying the game should be dumbed down, but that I’m open to changes. But if they screw it up, oh boy.

There is no time table yet as to when we will see this project fulfilled. But now I’m all excited about Knights of the Old Republic again, and may have to find my way back into it before the remake comes out. If you haven’t played the original, please go do so. The graphics suck, but you’ll be missing out on one of the greatest video game experiences of all time. Trust me, it’s worth it.
