Vendetta Sports Media has brought you division by division breakdowns of which fighters are legitimate title threats and now, we are going to cover fighters you should keep an eye on as up-and-coming prospects, starting with the Flyweights. This division was thought to be dead a few years ago before Henry Cejudo revived the entire weight class, and with current champion Deiveson Figueiredo holding reign, let’s take a look at fighters who can come up the ranks and challenge for the top spot down the line. Here are three UFC Flyweight Prospects.
Askarov has been mauling people in the UFC since his debut back in September 2019. Fighting out of Dagestan, Russia, Askarov is relentless with his takedown attempts, averaging 2.75 per 15 minutes. His wins against Joseph Benavidez, Alexandre Pantoja, and Tim Elliot illustrate his dominance against all types of fighters, and his 3-0-1 record against consistent talent in the UFC makes him a fighter to keep a close eye on in the near future, especially this coming June for Figueiredo x Moreno II.
Dvorak has been a machine in the octagon since debuting in the UFC in March of 2020. Undefeated in the UFC (3-0) and on a 16-fight win streak, he has the talent to fly up the ranks of the Flyweight Division. Currently ranked at #11, it should not be long before Dvorak is involved in major division fights. Always looking to keep the fight standing, Dvorak has a striking accuracy of 48% and a takedown accuracy of 75%. His most recent fight was Saturday at UFC Vegas 27, and he put on a great performance against Juancamilo Ronderos. Look for Dvorak to jump up in the rankings and challenge a top fighter later this year.
The final fighter on the list for UFC Flyweight Prospects is 28-year-old Brazilian Matheus Nicolau. Although currently in his second stint with the UFC, Nicolau showed that he belonged in the organization during his time away, winning his two fights in a convincing manner. Nicolau is on a three-fight win streak and has won eight of his last nine fights, primarily with incredible takedown defense (100%), and his ability to bring opposing fighters to the ground at a 44% clip. Nicolau is currently unranked, but look for him to make some noise this year and break into the top 15 Flyweights.
