Tyler Boyd Is NOT Happy With His Target Share

With AJ Green out, Tyler Boyd should theoretically be the number one in Cincinnati. Boyd also signed a four-year, $43 million deal this offseason confirming that sentiment. The Bengals are 0-10 so it’s not a surprise that some players are unhappy. In Boyd’s case, he is not pleased with the number of targets he’s getting.

This past week against Oakland, Boyd had just one catch for 10 yards on as many targets. Boyd expressed his frustrations:

“I feel like I’m the go-to guy with A.J. down,” Boyd said. “I felt like [my] targets were not where they should have been. I feel that I’m a game-changer and I could have utilized my talents in any way to move the chains, and nothing was coming my way.”

“The way I’m playing, the level that I bring, I believe I get open in any one-on-one coverage across the board against anyone,” Boyd said. “All you gotta do is just read the defense. If he sees he has me, just gotta put it there, and I’m going to make a play for him.”

I think we have to point out the obvious here. Ryan Finley flat out can’t play. It’s a miracle he even got drafted. Finley finished the game 13-of-31 passing for 115 yards and an interception. I’ve been trying to tell you that Finley sucks. He will make sure the Bengals have the first pick in the draft, don’t worry. When you’re getting horrible quarterback play, what can you really say about his targets? Next Gen stats also showed that Tyler Boyd was the only receiver that averaged more than 2 yards of separation per route run. That’s on Finley for not looking his way. To think fans had it bad with Andy Dalton. Oh, just wait. Finley is going to keep putting together clunkers.
