You couldn’t get me to go back to school if you dropped unlimited money in front of me to do it. Trayveon Williams is doing it while still being employed by the Bengals. Credit to him. Williams will head back to his alma mater during the NFL offseason to teach an NIL class.
“Having someone who has been in that system, who can relate, and who can bring a certain stamp of actual, real-life engagement in that world, I feel like can be beneficial,” Williams said on the podcast.
“There has to be someone that represents them,” Williams said. “There has to be someone who understands the ins and outs when it comes to constructing contracts and doing all the little, minute details in the middle of it.”
“I’ll be a full-time Bengal during the season, I promise,” Williams said. “However, after the season’s over, I’m putting my professor hat on and getting to work.”
Williams, 24, is currently listed as the fourth string running back on the roster behind Joe Mixon, Samaje Perine, and Chris Evans. Williams does have talent but injuries dropped him to the 6th round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Since entering the NFL, Williams has 41 career carries for 208 yards (5.1 per).
In reality, this is a smart move by Williams. His NFL career could end tomorrow. Getting his foot in the door with the University to teach an important class is something that can stand on it’s own for a long time. With the number of high end recruits Jimbo Fisher is landing, Williams has the right idea teaching this NIL class.
The class is expected to begin in the Spring of 2023 as Williams and Alex Sinatra get the curriculum sorted. 2022 is also a big year for Williams. He’s got his spot on the Bengals to worry about. It’s time for the former Aggies running back to stay healthy and productive. If you can’t beat out Samaje Perine for touches, maybe it’s time to hang up the cleats anyway.
Could be a make or break year for Williams. The back up spot behind Joe Mixon hasn’t been solidified. If it’s ever going to be Williams, that time is now.
