Tory Lanez Facing Three Felony Assault Charges
Tory Lanez is facing three felony assault charges after allegedly shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot back in July of 2020 after leaving a Kylie Jenner party.
The three charges against Lanez include assault with a semiautomatic firearm, personal use of a firearm and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. If found guilty on all three accounts, he could face 22 years in prison.
Initially, Megan said she cut her foot on glass, however, she later corrected herself in a deleted Instagram post, stating that Lanez shot her. Megan later explained that she initially withheld this information from the police because of potential retaliation against Lanez and the political climate at the time surrounding “police and shootings,” according to testimony from Det. Ryan Stogner.
Not only that, but she was also aware that coming out with a claim as this in a predominantly male industry could have major internal backlash.
Diss Tracks
Megan’s fears were ultimately realized as Lanez released a diss track titled “Money Over Fallouts” just two months after the claim. The song was the opening track on his self-titled album, Daystar. He goes on to rap, according to Genius, “Megan people tryna frame me for a shootin'” and “I would never put you in no danger, and if I did, you would’ve said it when you seen the cops.”
Megan clapped back with her own diss track titled “Shots Fired” on her album Good News. She called Lanez out for trying to pay her off rapping, “You offered M’s not to talk,” and how she helped him, “If it weren’t for me, same week, you would have been indicted.”
However, Lanez was not the only one to diss Megan, as Drake, on his recent album Her Loss, rapped “This b—- lie ’bout gettin’ shots, but she still a stallion,” referring to their altercation.
The Trial
It is interesting Lanez raps that Megan Thee Stallion’s team is trying to frame him, because his defense in trial is claiming that Megan’s friend at the time, Kelsey Harris, is the one who actually fired the weapon. They claim that she also had gun residue on her after the incident and Lanez’s DNA was not found on the weapon.
Harris, however, has made some head-scratching claims lately, as her testimonies are not matching previous ones from three months prior. This week during the trial, she has offered conflicting statements, notably stating she “doesn’t remember” or that the night was a blur. However, the night of the incident, Harris sent a text claiming “Tory shot Meg.” The defense stated that it is a dream to have a key prosecuting witness providing conflicting claims.
It is interesting to see how this plays out as there are statements that more key evidence has been uncovered. A total of four or five people were present at the altercation and one of them is a supposed key witness that will take the stand soon.
