Tory Lanez Found Guilty

Tory Lanez, birth name Daystar Peterson, was found guilty on all three charges in trial Friday afternoon, Dec. 23. The jury, which consisted of seven women and five men, deliberated on Thursday, Dec. 22 and found Lanez guilty. The charges include assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharge of a firearm with gross negligence. These charges can face a sentence of more than 22 years in prison and deportation to Canada, where he is originally from.

How It Started

The trial was being held for an altercation that took place in the summer of 2020, which consisted of Megan Thee Stallion, Tory Lanez, and Kelsey Harris, Megan’s best friend at the time. There are many claims as to what escalated the situation between the two rappers, especially from their point of views.

Lanez, and his defense, claimed the argument had started when Harris learned that him and Megan were in an intimate relationship when she had a crush on him. They claimed that this escalated to the point where Megan was leaving the vehicle and Harris shot her. Throughout the whole trial, Harris has been rather quiet after she quickly lawyered up.

Megan’s side, and ultimately the winning side of the trial, claimed that the whole vehicle was tense and got especially heated when the two rappers started attacking each other about their careers. Megan stated in her testimony, “I feel like that really rubbed him the wrong way,” according to CBS, “He kept yelling and cursing.” This altercation ended with Megan leaving the vehicle and getting told to “Dance, b—-!” before Lanez shot at her feet multiple times.

What Happens Now

George Mgdeysan, an attorney for anez, claimed the loss was “disappointing” and that they will be looking at all the options available including an appeal. If unsuccessful, the rapper will have to face time in prison and a possible deportation. It is unclear at the moment how long that time will be, however, the most he is looking at is a little more than 22 years.
