Ahead of this year’s All-Star festivities, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman announced that Toronto will be the host city of the 2024 All-Star Weekend, according to NHL Public Relations.
Bettman also made comments addressing the All-Star activities in Toronto in 2024.
“We are thrilled to bring the Honda NHL All-Star Game back to Toronto for the ninth time and to shine a spotlight on our current stars in a setting that evokes over a century of league history,” Bettman said, via theScore.
“Toronto fans are among the most knowledgeable and passionate in our game, and the city’s rich hockey history dates back to the creation of the sport,” Bettman continued, via theScore. “What better place to play host to our annual mid-season celebration of the best and brightest in the NHL?”
Going back in time, the last time Toronto hosted the All-Star Game was in 2000. In the past, it was held at the Air Canada Centre, the former arena where the Maple Leafs played at. In 2018, the Air Canada Centre was renamed to the Scotiabank Arena. The naming rights for Scotiabank are set for 20 years, the deal was worth C$800 million.
Ottawa was the most recent Canadian team to host an All-Star event back in 2012.
Finally, pop singer Justin Bieber, a Canadian native, has hinted at some sort of surprise for Toronto fans. He mentioned this in a recent Twitter video.
“What’s up NHL fans, Justin Bieber here,” Bieber said, via Toronto Maple Leafs Twitter. “I’m not going to be able to make it to this year’s All-Star game, but next year we are going to be hosting it in Toronto. So, I can’t wait to see you guys there,” Bieber said in the video posted by the Maple Leafs on social media.”
