Kensington Market is a must-go when visiting Toronto. Complete your trip by visiting this quaint, culture-filled market. With spots bustling with Jamaican, Mexican, Japanese and other cultures, Kensington will make anyone feel at home with its warm food and atmosphere. Venture out as soon as possible if you want to experience all kinds of cultures, hidden foodie spots, lively bars and more. All that said, here are my top five hidden gems in Kensington Market.
Kensington is known for its tacos, so I chose this very carefully. I’ve visited many taco places in Kensington during my year living there. Atmosphere, price, flavor and convenience are all factors that make an excellent taco place for me. Although this place is tightly fit into a latin american food court, the price, flavor and everything else makes it a great stop in your Kensington journey.
The chicken tacos are my personal favorite. They offer a hefty amount of juicy chicken that is topped with a perfectly spicy sauce and fresh toppings. This taco place has one of the most refreshing dishes I’ve tried.
Looking for a quick bite to eat to start your day? Egg Bae has the most delicious options to give you a filling and satisfying breakfast for under $10. All sandwiches are small enough to carry around on your way to work or across the street in Kensington’s tranquil park on a sunny day. They have options such as the Egg Bae, Seaside Bae, my favorite, the Eh Bae Bae and more! These savory, juicy, saucy sandwiches are the perfect breakfast to take around Kensington.
This churro stand has the crispiest and sugariest churros that are steaming hot and filled with a sweet soul-warming sauce. They pack each churro with a different filling, ranging from caramel, chocolate and leches, among others. Every churro is freshly made, making each crunchy bite heaven. The wait is definitely worth it.
Golden Patty is definitely the place to visit for your Jamaican patty cravings. This satisfied every patty desire of mine at any time of the day. Cheap, flaky, buttery patties with a meaty filling are just what I was looking for whenever I needed a pick-me-up. You definitely need to go here for a quick bite to eat before you thrift and check out what else Kensington has to offer.
The classic burger was well-cooked, juicy and hearty. Every bite was consistently moist and flavorful. The patties were thin and I recommend getting two, just to satisfy the urge to eat another one. The ugly sauce was unique and took the burger to the next level. We got more on the side. This spot gives you quick and cheap eats, but has seating as a bonus if you want to take the whole family.
