This is not the first time I’ve reviewed a Tom Segura standup. By no means do I consider myself an expert in comedy reviews but it’s fairly obvious at this point that Segura is one of the kings of the industry. Netflix just dropped his new special Sledgehammer, but how does it actually stack up? Let’s dive right into the review.
I always appreciate how Segura can tell a joke and that somehow it ties into the act 40 minutes later. He’s an artist when it comes to that and there is a bush joke that was funny the first time. Then it’s even funnier when you don’t see it coming the second time.
I’ll try to limit the spoilers the best I can while getting the post to the required 300 word limit. If you like Segura, then you’re going to like this standup. It takes a lot for me to laugh and he has me chuckle at least ten times or so. Some really clever jokes thrown in there.
Again, I’ll try to limit spoilers without getting too descriptive. However, the joke to close things out with his mother taking edibles is hilarious. Segura also takes shots at Bert Kreischer and Joey Diaz during the special. Segura also talks about what it was like to undergo a vasectomy which was somehow gross but more so funny at the same time.
Highly recommend as always. Tom Segura brings it and the reasoning behind why it’s named Sledgehammer is even funnier. If you’re looking for a new standup to watch on Netflix, this one is as good as it gets.
