Todd McShay, AKA Todd McFraud, is a trash NFL Draft analyst, but you know that already if you’re a frequent reader of this site. It’s why ESPN fired him and replaced him with a bum from Bleacher Report instead. Now he’s taking the Joe Douglas news a bit too personally too.
For those who don’t know, McShay and Douglas are total butt buddies. The two are college friends from the University of Richmond. Now that Douglas has been fired by the Jets, McFraud went on a rant defending his butt buddy.
“Joe will be fine, the Jets won’t,” said McShay. “And the reason I say that is because Woody Johnson is among the worst owners in the National Football League. If the Jets can’t win with Joe Douglas as the general manager and with the talent that is on that roster, the Jets can’t win, period. It’s an ownership problem, folks.
“There are certain decisions that are just made that it doesn’t matter what the general manager wants. There are certain decisions are just made that you have got to get on board with because one person pays the checks and one person oversees the whole thing.
“If you’re a Jets’ fan, you know exactly what I’m talking about. This is not news to you. I feel badly for Jets’ fans because if it wasn’t going to work with this regime, with that talent on the field… I don’t see much of a future in terms of where it’s going to be. Ownership is not going to change for a while is my guess. So how are you going to overcome this? And the answer is you probably don’t.”
McFraud is right about one thing. Douglas will be fine because he will probably just go back to a scouting role with the Ravens or another team. Ryan Pace got another job with the Falcons after he was stupid enough to take Mitch Trubisky with the second pick in the draft. These reject NFL executives rarely get put out to pasture. I’m quite sure Douglas will get another job in a scouting role with someone because that’s how the league operates.
He’s also right that the problems with the Jets start with Woody Johnson. We’re talking about an owner who literally said “thinking is overrated”. I think everyone is aware that Woody is a dope by now.
With that said, let’s be clear about one thing. Joe Douglas absolutely deserved to be fired and defending him is a totally embarrassing move. The guy won 30 games in six years on the job. Sorry, not sorry, but that’s terrible.
If you really want to do some digging on how embarrassing this butt buddy relationship is, rewatch the ESPN version of the first round for the 2023 NFL Draft. ESPN had drunk McFraud in the dog house and let him come on TV only to talk about the Jets pick. The pick became Will McDonald, which was a total reach, but McFraud pretended otherwise. Never forget, no hindsight bias needed.
To close things out, I want to share my favorite comments from the McFraud clip defending butt buddy Joe.
