Todd Bowles Hopes Mike Evans Doesn’t Leave Tampa Bay
Todd Bowles understands how important Mike Evans is. The same can’t be said for the clueless dope Matthew Berry, but that’s a topic we already went over (check out the Matthew Berry challenge if you haven’t already).
Evans is an unrestricted free agent this offseason. It sounds like the Bucs coach has already started a prayer circle in order to keep him in Tampa Bay.
“I don’t even think about it. I don’t like to be asked about it. I don’t want to know about it and I hope to hell that does not happen,” Bowles said of Evans’ possible departure, via Greg Auman of Fox Sports.
Evans, 30, led the NFL in touchdown receptions with 13. He also finished the 2023-24 NFL Season with 79 catches for 1,255 yards. So yeah… that’s not exactly the type of guy you want to lose.
This is also going to be the first time Evans hits the open market. Evans has never gotten the chance to test the market in free agency. It’s far from a guarantee he’s back.
Antoine Winfield Jr, Baker Mayfield, Lavonte David, and Devin White are also unrestricted free agents this upcoming offseason. Obviously… It’s going to be difficult to keep all of them. Especially if they give Mayfield a sizeable raise from the dirt-cheap deal he played on this year. The one thing the Bucs have going for them is the fact that Florida has no state tax. A huge break when it comes to trying to retain players.
