Titans Sign Former Michigan Wrestler Adam Coon To Play Offensive Line

The Tennessee Titans have made an unusual signing to help their offensive line. They have agreed to terms with former Michigan wrestler Adam Coon to play offensive line and compete for a guard spot, according to Jim Wyatt of tennesseetitans.com.

Coon was a very successful wrestler at Michigan, he was a three-time NCAA All-American and his college career record is 116-15. Coon earned a spot on the USA’s men’s Olympic team, but he failed to qualify for this summer’s Olympics in Tokyo.

Now, Coon is looking to test his 6-foot-5, 300 pound frame on the football field. However, it’s been a while since Coon put on the pads.

Coon attended Fowlerville High School in Michigan, in 2012 he was named an all-state linebacker and an all-time honorable mention at offensive line in 2010 and 2011. In 2013 he was named All-Livingston County Defensive Player of the Year, and he was a four-time all-league offensive linemen and defensive linemen/linebacker. Coon was a four-time state Wrestling champion, and in 2013 he was named the Detroit Athletic Club High School Athlete of the Year as a senior.

Although Adam Coon never played football at Michigan, he kept a return to the field as an option. Now, he’s getting his shot.

There have been quite a few experiments in the NFL over the past few years. Jordan Mailata played rugby before becoming a tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles, and Mo Alie-Cox played basketball before becoming an NFL tight end. The Miami Dolphins signed college basketball standout Jibri Blount to play tight end. Former Buffalo Bulls quarterback Tyree Jackson is switching to tight end, NFL teams are starting to experiment and gems can be found anywhere.
