Three Xbox Exclusives Better Than God of War

An exclusive is when a video game or even franchise is released only on a certain platform or to a certain console. PlayStation has many exclusives in its arsenal, and they usually have the upper hand over Xbox in this regard. One of their biggest exclusives is the franchise God of War, with PlayStation recently announcing the release date for God of War Ragnarok.

God of War is known for its cinematography, epic story, and sensational combat. The game is extremely cinematic in part due to the fantastic graphics and visuals of the variety of settings. Besides all the visuals, there are two specific things that all God of War games have been successful in and that is the immersive story and exciting combat.

Kratos’ story of raging wars against the gods has been amazing since the PlayStation 2 days and it has only gotten better with the recent games. The new God of War series on PS4 and PS5 have switched the setting to Norse mythology and added a wonderful protagonist in Atreus, the son of Kratos. Another staple in the God of War franchise is the action and combat which is always fast-paced fun. The combat system is easy to learn and allows gamers to go toe to toe with a multitude of challenging opponents.

Now that we know more about the new PlayStation exclusive, let’s look at three Xbox exclusives better than God of War.

Halo

Halo has a phenomenal story in its own right with the lead protagonist Master Chief in a captivating ongoing battle against a variety of alien species. Halo’s campaign cannot compete with the visual beauty of God of War, but Halo does excel with the creativity and variety they have in the number of weapons gamers can use in the game. There are a vast number of human guns, alien weapons, vehicles, and explosives that users have at their disposal.

The best part of the Halo series is the player vs player aspect of the game. Gamers can get lost in the endless fun that is battling their friends or playing with their friends against other gamers online in the different Halo maps. God of War, which is a more story-driven open-world game, simply cannot hang with the player vs player shooter aspects of Halo.

Gears of War

Gears of War is centered on the battle between humanity and reptilian foes known as the Locust Horde. The Gears of War games are third-person shooters with a fun but different combat system that focuses on strategically taking out opponents while trying to minimize damage. Another high point of the Gears franchise is the immersive story mode that can be played cooperatively. This means two friends can take on the challenge of preserving humanity together in the Gears of War story mode.

The more tactical and cover-based combat of Gears might not be as fun as the fast-paced bloodbath that happens in God of War, but it is a matter of preference. Gears of War does not have a greater overall cinematic story, but the campaign can be played cooperatively unlike God of War.

Fable

Fable is an action role-playing game that takes place in the fictional setting of Albion. Additionally, it boasts a strong story spanning an immense amount of time. One of the stronger aspects of Fable is the open-world map which allows gamers to get immersed in Albion through quests and interactions. Another key piece in Fable is the moral development aspect where the decisions made by the user as the protagonist will drastically affect the way he is perceived by the people of Albion.

God of War and Fable are both similar in how they lean into the open-world feature through the use of quests or missions. However, Fable’s moral development mechanic makes it feel as if every decision matters and the user can directly affect the protagonist’s life in the game, which is different from the endless killing that takes up a majority of the God of War games.
