Yesterday, we had our “This Day In History” post. Today, I am going to recognize the history of the NBA for this day in history post. It is the only thing that is keeping me sane through this whole thing. On this day in NBA History, Michael Jordan officially scored 29,000 points in his career. He scored his 29,000th career point in a 107-93 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. At this time in 1998, only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Wilt Chamberlain had achieved this feat. This was the Bulls 74th game of the season and their 57th win of the season. Michael Jordan had 41 points this game on 64% shooting. He shot 16 out of 25 FGs including 2 out of 6 for 3. MJ had made 7 out of 8 FTs as well. He also had 4 assists and 6 rebounds this game.
In 1998, his last year with the Chicago Bulls, he was producing at a high rate even at 34. He averaged 28.7 PPG on 46.5% shooting, 3.5 APPG, and 5.8 RPG. Michael Jordan lead the Chicago Bulls to a 62-20 win this season. That 62 win season was good enough for the Bulls to have the number 1 seed in the Eastern Conference. They would eventually meet the Western Conference’s number 1 seed, the Utah Jazz, in the NBA Finals. This year was the last year that Michael Jordan had won a title. He had the famous “The Shot” over the Utah Jazz to clinch his 6th title. After that shot, his last shot as a Chicago Bull, he retired for 3 years.
After retiring for 3 years, he announced he was coming back to play in the NBA. However, he never played with the Bulls again, he ended up playing 2 years with the Washington Wizards. While playing with the Washington Wizards in his last two years, he had averaged at least 20 PPG, 4 APG, and 6 RPG.
