Jay Gruden has coached his last game for the Washington Redskins. Gruden has been canned after a 0-5 start to the season. That’s not all. A video came out of him smoking weed and flirting with a woman that definitely wasn’t his wife. It also became public that Gruden didn’t want the Skins to draft Dwayne Haskins. Gruden needed to go and Washington followed suit

The news was first reported by Dan Graziano:

Washington also released the following statement after the news came to light:

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have relieved Head Coach Jay Gruden of his duties with the team. Gruden was informed of the decision early Monday morning by Owner Daniel Snyder and President Bruce Allen.

The team has issued the following statement: Through the first five games of the 2019 season, the team has clearly not performed up to expectations, and we all share in that responsibility. Moving forward we are committed to doing all that we can collectively as an organization to turn things around and give our Redskins fans and alumni a team they can be proud of in 2019 and beyond.

The Redskins will hold a press conference at Redskins Park at 1:00 p.m. ET today.”

Jay Gruden will end his Redskins coaching career with a record of 35-49-1 making the playoffs just once in that span. Washington will now turn the keys of the franchise to Bill Callahan. Kevin O’Connell will be in charge of the offense. Let’s see if this tandem lets Dwayne Haskins out of the stable. My guess would be yes, and it’s already been mandated by ownership.

It’s amazing to look at the assistants that used to be on this coaching staff. Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan, and Matt LeFleur worked under Gruden. The Redskins watched all of them walk out the door. That’s so brutal. It remains to be seen who Washington will consider after the season ends. My guess is they would like to keep Callahan as the offensive line coach. That’s what he’s really good at. Kevin O’Connell may get the promotion all the way to the top depending on how Dwayne Haskins looks the rest of the season.
