‘The Last of Us: Part 2’ Will be Split Into Multiple Seasons

Naughty Dog and HBO’s hit show The Last of Us has garnered much acclaim and popularity since it’s initial release. The show, based on the action-adventure game of the same name, was confirmed to have a second season back in January. But while this second season will be focused on the events of the game’s sequel, The Last of Us: Part 2, it won’t cover the whole story. With the sequel’s story instead to be split into several seasons.

Why Split It

In 2020 The Last of Us: Part 2 was released to both great acclaim and some controversy. Its story was larger and more complex than the previous title. And as a result, the creators and showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann want to be able to tell that story thoroughly and with more details than just one season can provide. By having multiple seasons, they’ll be able to do just that.

The Last Of Us season 2 will include many fan favorites. Including Pedro Pascal’s Joel, Bella Ramsey’s Ellie, and Gabriel Luna’s Tommy. As well as new characters from The Last of Us: Part 2. By splitting up the second game into multiple seasons, the show will be able to flesh out and tell the stories of these characters and develop them more as a result.

While HBO hasn’t approved of any more The Last of Us past a second season, unless the showrunners drop the ball no doubt HBO will continue to support the series. We’ll just have to see what this second seasons entails. But if it’s anything this this wonderful first season, it will no doubt be something great.
