Teuvo Teravainen, Blackhawks Agree To Three Year Contract

Teuvo Teravainen is returning to the Windy City. The man known as “Turbo” is signing a three year contract with the Chicago Blachawks worth $16.2 million. He will now play for the team where he won the Stanley Cup in 2015 as a rookie. At age 30, he still has plenty left in the tank and the term here works to his advantage. If Kyle Davidson’s rebuild does not move along over the next two or three years he can easily move onto a contender at only 33. He is a solid middle sixer who will give them a little bit of everything:

As one of many skilled forwards in Carolina last year, he scored 25 goals and 28 assists for 53 points in 73 games last year. He put up a solid 415 points in 555 games with the Hurricanes over the course of eight years. His number may take a dip playing for a rebuilding team but his familiarity with the Hawks and the city certainly played a factor here. Originally drafted 18th overall in 2012, the Finnish winger made his debut during the 2013-2014 season. He quickly became a fan favorite but was a cap casualty in 2016 because of the beginning of the tail end for Chicago’s previous core group.

What Are They Brewing?

This is yet another forward of decent profile that is leaving the Canes. Of course, it started with Jake Guentzel moving to Tampa Bay. There seems to be no breakthrough for a potential Martin Necas extension. Even on the back end they just lost a key piece in Brett Pesce to a division rival. They will need to start pumping tires on some moves soon or else they will be big losers this summer. Keeping Jaccob Slavin around for the long term is solid but they need fresh bodies. At just under $23 million in cap space they can bring some RFAs back and make a swing for someone.

Teuvo Teravainen is in for a fun reunion. The 2015 Stanley Cup champ returns to a place he knows well as help for Connor Bedard is starting to funnel in.
