Terry Fontenot: ‘Very Comfortable’ With Kirk Cousins As Falcons Backup

When the Falcons drafted Michael Penix, general manager Terry Fontenot told the media the plan was for Michael Penix to sit for four-five years. Kirk Cousins was benched after 14 games. This is the same guy who claimed Bill Belichick wasn’t a top three candidate for them. This dude is an absolute idiot for several reasons and if you can’t see that by now, nothing can help you.

Fontenot had his end of season press conference after Atlanta missed the playoffs… again.

At the presser, Fontenot claims that the Falcons are totally cool with Cousins being the backup next year.

“The plan was for Kirk to play longer, and Mike to sit longer.”

“We are very comfortable moving forward with (Cousins) as backup,” Fontenot said. “Kirk is a great man, and he’s been great support for Mike. We are very comfortable moving forward with him as the backup.”

Are We Sure The Falcons Still Don’t Suck Even After Adding Kirk Cousins?

I guess I’m going to be that guy but this is a lie. It’s a lie for one reason and it has everything to do with $$$.

Cousins, 36, has a $27.5 million salary for the 2025 season. Oh, and there’s another $10 million guaranteed if he is on the roster five days into the new league year. I can promise you the Falcons aren’t paying that. You cannot pay excess of $37 million for a backup quarterback. Nobody is stupid enough to do that. This is either a lie or they’re the dumbest franchise on the planet, which I guess could be the case.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Cousins is likely to be released, which is certainly going to be the case unless Atlanta can restructure the contract somehow.

Long story short; Fontenot can tell you whatever he wants. Do not believe this man. He is a deranged idiot and it’s insane anybody hired this clown, in the first place. This franchise is totally screwed and will be until they take the keys away.

He should have been fired the second he turned the card in for Penix after handing Cousins that contract.
