Tanner Jeannot Headed To Tampa Bay

Tanner Jeannot is switching conferences! The talented young forward is being Traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning for a very sizable return. Elliotte Friedman had the news of the deal and the compensation below:

In his first two seasons, Tanner Jeannot quickly became a fan favorite in Nashville. The 25-year-old has mixed some pretty reasonable production with a strong physical game in very short order. Last year, as a rookie, he put up 24 goals and 41 points in 81 games as he helped the Predators make the playoffs. However, things have changed during 2022-2023. Hours after announcing their major front-office shift, their first deal includes moving on from Jeannot. However, they did get a lot of good value for the pending RFA. Four draft picks and a fairly young piece in Cal Foote will help as they continue to sell. However, JFresh helps put things in perspective:

Tampa Swings Big

A piece like Jeannot could potentially add something to their lineup. Physicality always means more in the postseason. And his skillset appears to fit this Tampa forward group pretty well. In a way, this is the Lightning replacing Ondrej Palat after he left for the New Jersey Devils in free agency last summer. In this Tampa offense, he could certainly help the likes of Stephen Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov in a similar way to Alex Killorn. Having your four best wingers be Kucherov, Stamkos, Brandon Hagel, and Jeannot looks really good for April and May. Regardless, they still paid a big price for someone they’re gonna have to pay this Summer. His numbers could bump up more offensively with Tampa.

Preds Making Big Changes

Nashville is firmly in the seller’s market now. After trading off Nino Niederreiter earlier in the week, They are now open for business. It will be worth watching if someone like Matt Duchene becomes more available. In any event, the Preds did well to get a lot of assets back. Cal Foote is probably someone worth taking a chance on in the longer term. This is the second deal these two teams have done within the year. In last year’s draft, Tampa Bay sent Ryan McDonagh to Nashville in order to alleviate cap issues.

With only days left in the trade deadline, we have another trade going down. It’s safe to say the East is getting stronger and stronger with the Devils also adding Timo Meier earlier today. He is a player who could possibly make a difference when the playoffs roll around. As for Nashville, it seems like a rebuild is starting to take place.
