NBA Free Agency

It’s kind of silly to think tampering is prohibited in the NBA. Everyone does it, it is just a matter if you get caught or not. It’s like the NCAA, it is only illegal to bribe players to come to their school if you get caught. I’m never surprised when tampering is found in the NBA or the NCAA, it happens constantly. It isn’t just with GMs or teams itself in the NBA, it is the players themselves that tamper with other players. To think tampering can still be contained is just plain dumb. Brian Windhorst’s of ESPN report on Free Agency provided by NBC NBA:

Free agency has essentially already stared. As I have talked to executives, there is an incredible amount of chatter. Contracts are essentially being  quasi-tendered. Definitely, players’ agents are communicating to teams what they want in contracts. And I’ve even heard of players who are – guys who are extension-eligible who could be traded – who have already communicated to teams that might trade for them what their price is for their extension. So, not only is there a bunch of trade talks, contracts are flying out there.

Sure, we can argue about the legitimacy of Brian Windhorst all we want. But, any reporter or insider could have said this, and I would agree with them. If you don’t think tampering happens 365 days of the year, you are just plain blind. Wake up and smell the bacon, tampering will continue to go on forever. For every rule they make, there will be a loophole. You might as well just get rid of the tampering rules altogether for NBA Free Agency and everything else. There’s no way to contain everyone, especially NBA players themselves. Let’s just accept it already.
