If you came here to read a positive report on Tahj Brooks, feel free to exit the page now and thank you for the click. If you came for the truth, I promise it will be worth your time. This is a player we’re crossing off the list and we’re going to talk about why here in a hot minute. Here is your 2025 NFL Draft profile on the Texas Tech running back.

NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 10Week 11, East-West (1), (2), Game

I’ll fully admit I didn’t watch every snap of Texas Tech but I saw plenty of glimpses and it’s hard to ignore his Combine performance. No crazy burst at all. Can kinda cut and be passable in the passing game but that’s about it. Not overly fast. No twitch or instincts. 5-foot-9, 214, and it’s kinda like I’m watching Maurice Jones-Drew if the Monstars zapped all his powers from Space Jam.

I don’t have any positive reports from the East-West game either. Again, all the stock notes are going to be at the top of the profiles if you want to read them.

Brooks, 22, was a former three star guy out of the state of Texas. Played all five years for the Red Raiders and wasn’t impactful until the final two. The first two years he played sparingly. In 2022, he finally emerged as something but basically irrelevant for the most part. Then he finally did damage in 2023 and 2024 rushing for over 1,500 yards in each of those seasons. Also averaged 5.3 yards per carry in both of those years with 27 combined touchdowns.

This past year was by far his most productive in the passing game area too. Was second-team All-Big 12 this past year. Guy can really catch the ball. Drops are not an issue. Being a factor once the ball is in his hands is a problem.

If you want to give him credit for anything, give him credit for handling a huge workload. 633 touches over the last two years isn’t a small number. Then again, do you start to worry about the remaining tread on the tires? I already don’t think he’s explosive. What if he’s beat up and not explosive?

I don’t ever see him play fast, which is the biggest problem. It’s like his brain glitches and can’t get to the needed spot fast enough. That’s the biggest problem I see with him.

Again, I may be in the minority on this one but I’d argue my accuracy on running backs is far better than the rest of the industry. I’m looking at the knee bend within the knee bend. There is no explosive knee bend here. That moment within the moment to explode and fire, he’s always a tick late and I just don’t see any real NFL upside here. Brooks gets an undrafted grade for me and he wouldn’t be a priority add in free agency either if he makes it there.
