SimBull 2021 CFB Full Team Breakdown: Virginia Tech Hokies

Welcome to Vendetta’s SimBull CFB full team breakdowns, where the writers from Vendetta Sports Media will be analyzing all the Power 5 college football programs for their share value on SimBull. This edition looks at the Virginia Tech Hokies.

2020 Record: 5-6 (5-5 ACC)

2021 Projected Win Total (via DraftKings): O/U 7

On the Field

The Hokies currently sit 2-1 following a loss to West Virginia over the weekend. Justin Fuente’s squad announced itself on the national stage with a season opening win against then No. 10 UNC. Virginia Tech’s defense stifled Heisman contending quarterback Sam Howell and in an ACC that is looking incredibly mediocre, beyond how it normally looks, this could be the year for a potential ACC title return to Blacksburg.

The offense is led by quarterback Braxton Burmeister, a transfer from Oregon, who has thrown for 534 yards through three games while tacking on four touchdowns. He has also added 105 yards on the ground and one touchdown. Expect the Hokies to bounce back against Richmond this weekend, but the true test is coming against Notre Dame in Blacksburg on Oct. 9. They have a full 14 days to prepare for the Fighting Irish, so expect a good game and, if nothing else, watch how the Hokie faithful have Lane Stadium rocking.

In the Market

Virginia Tech is valued at $43.79 per share in the SimBull CFB marketplace, a price that is the third-highest in the ACC. Fuente did have an excellent start in his first two years – winning 19 games in that period – but after last year’s dismal 5-6 season, you may be on the fence. But last season’s woes are in the past, so give the Hokies a shot.

Having already beat the Heels, Notre Dame remains the only top-25 opponent on their schedule – at the moment. They end the season with two away games at Miami and Virginia, respectively, but Fuente will have his team geared up for a postseason push. If you still have concerns about the Hokies’ share price, an alternative route would be buying 1-2 Northwestern for $5 more – just food for thought.
