Should Notre Dame Football Join A Conference?

The talk for years has been that Notre Dame needs to join a conference to become a viable threat for the College Football Playoff. I beg to differ. Notre Dame consistently stacks their schedule with some of footballs best.

Last season Notre Dame was able to make the College Football Playoff with a 12-0 record beating ranked teams like Michigan, Stanford, Virginia Tech, and Syracuse. Following that up with a convincing win at USC. They hit a block in the road when they met Trevor Lawrence and the soon to be National Champs. But their schedule over the next few seasons proves why they do not need a conference title.

2020 – Arkansas, Wisconsin, Stanford, Clemson, Pitt, USC
2021 – Florida State, Purdue, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, USC, North Carolina, Stanford
2022 – Ohio State, Stanford, Clemson, USC, North Carolina

Just a glimpse of the next few seasons for Notre Dame football. Notre Dame is not scheduling cakewalk games. Sure, they have convincing wins each year and a super-easy game. But they are not typically paying FCS schools to come get waxed, like most of your top 10 teams.

If the Fighting Irish can continue to go undefeated in their regular season schedule then they will always be a legitimate threat to make the playoff due to the fact they will have convincing wins over some of the country’s best teams. Even if they drop a close game, similar to what they did a few weeks ago against Georgia, depending on how the field plays out, they should still get considered.
