Should Connor McDavid Be Banned From Fantasy Hockey?

David Pastrňák just put together a 61 goal season that included 113 points. Pastrňák was the third highest fantasy hockey scorer for the 2022-23 season. Want to hear something crazy? Connor McDavid scored roughly 100 more fantasy points than Pasta a year ago. That’s not a made-up number. Check this cheese out.

When it comes to fantasy sports, McDavid is the biggest cheat code in any sport. He’s just that good. If you have the first pick, it’s the biggest unfair advantage in fantasy. Hockey Guy Trey had the great fortune to have McDavid the last two years and it helped propel team Icing Daubert to that infamous three-peat.

The short answer is no. You can’t just outlaw a player from fantasy. That’s about as weak sauce as it gets. Realistically there is one fix that can be done. It’s a matter of if people have the balls to recognize it. Auction leagues exist for a reason. It’s why I refuse to participate in snake drafts for football. It’s the reason why we don’t recognize fantasy football snake drafts at Vendetta.

If you want your fantasy league to be as fun and realistic as possible, auction drafts are always the way to go. You should never be in a fantasy league where you don’t have an equal opportunity to pick the best players available. It’s a way better alternative rather than just straight up banning a player from fantasy. When it comes to fantasy hockey, maybe salary cap leagues are the way of the future. With the way Connor McDavid is at the top of his game, having the first pick in a snake draft is just too unfair.
