Should The Celtics Trade For Naz Reid?

Do the Celtics need Robert Williams insurance? There is just no denying that the Celtics are a totally different team when the Timelord is healthy. Thomas Bryant could have been that guy but he opted to sign with the Lakers instead. With Minnesota heavily invested in other bigs on their roster, could a Naz Reid trade be on the horizon?

Chris Forsberg of NBC Sports Boston suggests that Reid could be a potential target for the Celtics come the deadline. Removing the fact that Forsberg is brain dead and suggests the Celtics should include Payton Pritchard, Reid is a logical target.

Based on the recent trade of Rui Hachimura, could Reid be on the table for a package including second round picks? Reid is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the season. Based on the depth of the Minnesota roster in the front court, it’s fair to question if the Wolves will part ways.

We know the Celtics would love to add Jakob Poeltl, however, recent reports have downplayed their interest. Given the fact that Boston already doesn’t have their first round pick from the Malcolm Brogdon trade, it’s worth noting that they may not have the draft ammo necessary to land Poeltl. With Poeltl becoming a free agent after seasons end, Poeltl may want an opportunity for heavy playing time. A guy like Reid just simply makes more sense in that reserve big role.

Reid, 23, is averaging 10.1 points and 4.9 rebounds a game across 17.8 minutes per game. The former LSU product is also posting a career high shooting percentage (.538) as well. Reid isn’t exactly a knockdown shooter but he can hit a three in a pinch. More so than anything, he’s another nasty big that can block shots and play with energy. It’s exactly what this Celtics team needs along with another shooter.

Boston has three second round picks in the upcoming draft. Could they package two of those for Naz Reid? Is that too low of a price tag given his recent resurgence? It’s going to be an interesting deadline for the Celtics coming off a Finals appearance looking to get the job done this time around.
