The last post I did mentions how Jacoby Brissett might have some sneaky fantasy value while Deshaun Watson is suspended. Of course, fantasy is a much different story than real football. Are we sure Cleveland shouldn’t be trying to orchestrate a trade with San Francisco for Jimmy Garoppolo? Are we sure Brissett is capable of keeping the Browns afloat? If Jimmy G for those 11 games the difference in what turns into a playoff spot or not?
All of these questions are things that Andrew Berry needs to be asking himself. On paper, Jimmy G to Cleveland makes a ton of sense. The actual logistics of it might tell a different story.
A: How much money is Cleveland actually willing to commit to the quarterback room? Watson basically isn’t losing any money the way his contract is structured. Cleveland is also paying Baker Mayfield $10.5 million to play for Carolina. The Browns are also paying Jacoby Brissett too. The Browns do have cap space but is it really feasible to take on Jimmy G’s deal as well? Can the Browns justify giving up more draft capital for another quarterback that’s seen as a short term fix?
B: Does Jimmy G even want to go to Cleveland? We all know Watson is getting the job back after his 11 week suspension. Garoppolo may look to seek a more stable long term job. Also, it’s Cleveland. Jimmy may hold out and ask for a different landing spot.
With all of that being said, it looks like the Browns probably won’t be players in the Jimmy Garoppolo market even though he would be the perfect option to keep this Browns to afloat. We’re all getting the Jacoby Brissett show to start the 2022 NFL Season.
