Jacoby Brissett: Fantasy Relevant While Deshaun Watson Is Suspended?
Can Cleveland weather the storm while Deshaun Watson is suspended? If so, Jacoby Brissett is going to have to show up at least a little bit. If that’s the case, why can’t Brissett be a relevant quarterback in fantasy? For those that play in real leagues that start two quarterbacks, the former NC State product should probably be on your radar.
Once upon a time, the Colts were convinced he was their guy. Obviously, that was ridiculous but fantasy football is a different game. Brissett was the full time starter for the Colts in 2017 and 2019. Each year he rushed for four touchdowns and well over 200 yards. If that rushing baseline is there, Brissett doesn’t need to be an all-world quarterback to survive in fantasy.
This Browns team is good. Are we saying they aren’t going to score? The weapons around Brissett are more than adequate and even improved from a year ago. Amari Cooper is an upgrade over Jarvis Landry. David Njoku is now primed for a large role. The running back room probably doesn’t get better around the league.
The only real issue is Brissett isn’t going to put up crazy passing numbers and the Browns may find themselves burning clock with Nick Chubb. Brissett could very well turn out matchup depended. Maybe he has a week against a terrible defense like Atlanta. Feels like a very useful start right there. You can play the song and dance game with Brissett in best ball and standard leagues. The matchups will be there.
Don’t totally dismiss Jacoby Brissett to start the year. There will be some weeks that you will probably do way worse even if the pure talent isn’t quite there.
