Shemar Stewart 2025 NFL Draft Profile

I already wrote this post on Shemar Stewart so I figured I may as well finish up the rest of my thoughts on the Texas A&M pass rusher. I’m quite sure I’ll be viewed as a leper for what I’m about to say next but we already know why that’s the case. Everyone else is in follow-the-leader mode and dare I say a guy who has shown no evidence of being a good football player probably shouldn’t be picked in the first round.

Crazy, I know. I’m well aware in more ways than one.

Without further ado, here is your 2025 NFL Draft profile on the Texas A&M pass rusher!

NFL Draft Stock Report: Senior Bowl (2), (3)

I genuinely don’t know how you start anywhere but the part about Stewart, where he’s provided zero evidence of actually being a good football player. The stat line looks like this…

1.5 sacks as a freshman.

Copy and paste as a sophomore.

Copy and paste one more time as a junior.

That apparently makes you a no-doubter first-round pick in the eyes of the scummy NFL Draft community. Again, I said this in the link at the top but it goes beyond the lack of production why that’s not even a possibility for me. You can’t ignore the part about how it sets a horrible precedent in your locker room that you’re rewarding players who have done nothing on the field.

We know why people have lost their minds on Stewart. It has everything to do with traits. Stewart, 21, was a five star coming out of high school and there are truly some freaky qualities here. The Miami, Florida, native checks in at 6-foot-5, 267, while running a 4.59 with a 40 inch vertical jump. Yeah, that’s damn impressive. There’s also no reason to review anything further on the athletic stuff because the only thing he did at the Combine was run and jump. Nothing on the field.

There’s also no way to qualify this other than it being a case of him being so athletic, you’re banking on the light bulb moment clicking at some point.

Maybe that happens.

Maybe it doesn’t.

When you watch Stewart, he just looks like a lost puppy dog. Now, he did record 39 pressures, which is more than his teammate, Nic Scourton (and we’ll talk about him soon). There is no plan of attack in the pass rushing department. He’s straight up and down with no knee bend, using all his athletic prowess to win. If he were a technique artist, I promise you he has more production than zero. By the way, we’re talking about a guy who didn’t become a full time starter until this past year. He had one start in 2023.

We’re very much riding the vibes of Fran Fraschilla talking about Bruno Caboclo. Is there a better way to describe what’s going on here with this Stewart con job thing the industry has decided to do?

I have a 5th round grade on Shemar Stewart. He may as well be Bambi and viewed as a pure developmental player who has a chance to grow into a impact player down the road. I’m okay with going a round or two higher based on pass rusher being a premium position but that’s about all there really is to it here. There are just too many times where it looks like he’s never played football before to consider going any higher than that.
