Sergei Bobrovsky Absolutely Sucks

I’m in the Finals of my fantasy hockey league and a big thanks goes to Sergei Bobrovsky for helping me get there. When I say helping me get there, I mean by proving to the world that he absolutely sucks. It’s time we acknowledge the truth. Forget about world class goaltender, Bobrovsky sucks. There is no other word that should be associated with him.

It wasn’t too long ago that our guy, Gavin Daly, wrote a puff piece on Chris Driedger. Since that time, Driedger has played up to par while Bobrovsky continues to hit new lows. Driedger isn’t just the better option at this point. Bobrovsky is quietly proving to be one of the most egregious contracts in the entire NHL.

Bobrovsky, 32, is in the midst of a 7-year, $70 million contract that expires during the 2026 offseason. It’s one thing to pay a goal tender $10 million per year. It’s another to pay a goalie $10 million per year who gives up 2.97 goals per game posting a .904 save percentage.

Frankly, those numbers really don’t tell the full story either. The Florida Panthers are a damn good hockey team. Bobrovsky is the black hole that’s proverbially holding them back. Bobrovsky was a healthy scratch Monday and has since been benched for rookie Spencer Knight. That’s with Driedger on the shelf with an injury.

The game on April 27th against Nashville epitomizes the season for Sergei Bobrovsky. Florida is sending screamers at the net the entire game at Juuse Saros. The guy is quite literally standing on his head. The game should have realistically been 10-0. Except for the fact that Bobrovsky exists. Goalie Bob allowed 4 goals on 21 shots as the Preds led 4-3 heading into the third. Spencer Knight came into the game and Florida pulled it out 7-4. Juuse Saros never had a prayer facing 55 shots on the night. If you swapped goalies, it could have been 20-0. Not a joke.

Bobrovsky has been pure swiss cheese. The guy could not stop a random nose bleed at this point. His goals saved above average number is atrocious sitting at -4.06 which ranks 47th in the league. His quality start percentage (.483) ranks 50th in the league. On 5 on 5 situations, Bob is allowing a goals saved above expected rate of -6.8 which ranks 46th in the league. The guy sucks. There’s nothing more to say.

Even when you watch Bobrovsky, your eyes don’t lie to you. His rebound control stinks. He doesn’t secure any pucks. They fly right off him opening up for easy rebounds. Easy gimme’s that he should snare rip right past him. There is no other way to say it. Sergei Bobrovsky is an overpaid bonafide scrub. The Panthers are totally trapped with an albatross contract that will most definitely hamper their future.
