After being drafted No. 3 to the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2023 NBA draft, guard Scoot Henderson has guaranteed himself to win this year’s Rookie of the Year.
After being passed on by the Charlotte Hornets in this year’s draft, Henderson looks to have an even bigger chip on his shoulder heading into his rookie year. Henderson, the standout for the NBA G League Ignite, was passed on by the Charlotte Hornets after being seen as the consensus second-best player in the draft.
During an interview with “Playmaker,” Henderson went all in on himself, saying he will win Rookie of the Year.
“My goal, obviously, is to win Rookie of the Year,” Henderson told Playmaker (YouTube link). “And I will win Rookie of the Year. … My goals for the season are to help win a lot of games, to embrace the position I’m in, to embrace my role on the team, to be a great listener, and watching film and applying it to the next game.”
Henderson got off to a hot start in the NBA for the Trail Blazers. In his Summer League debut, in just 21 minutes, Henderson finished with 15 points, six assists and five rebounds. Unfortunately, the No. 3 pick would exit the game with a shoulder injury and would not return.
As of right now, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, Henderson has the third-best odds for the 2023 NBA Rookie of the Year award behind San Antonio Spurs big man and top overall pick Victor Wembanyama and Oklahoma City Thunder center Chet Holmgren.
Can Henderson prove the haters wrong again this season? Let us know in the comments down below.
