Despite having been out of the WWE ring for the majority of 2022, Sasha Banks, as of this very second, is the talk of the professional wrestling world.
Friday afternoon, PWInsider.com reported that Mercedes Varnado is scheduled to be at Wrestle Kingdom 17, New Japan Pro Wrestling’s biggest show of the year, on January 4, 2023. The report has everyone speculating in the world of professional wrestling over the wrestling future of Varnado, perhaps soon to be formerly known as Sasha Banks.
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, his sources within WWE have indicated that Sasha Banks’ status with the company seemingly remains unchanged. Sapp has maintained in recent weeks that there’s been no news to report from the WWE end in regards to if or when Banks would be returning to the company.
Those within NJPW have not confirmed or denied the news as of now. This isn’t typical for the promotion. They are usually quick to deny incorrect reports and rumors, as they did in the recent case of Karl Anderson.
With Mercedes Varnado possibly debuting for NJPW on January 4, the January 11 episode of AEW Dynamite is now also grabbing the eyeballs, where Saraya will team up with a mystery partner to take on Dr. Britt Baker and AEW Women’s World Champion Jamie Hayter. The history between Paige and Sasha Banks is very well documented, and Britt Baker is known to consider Banks/ Varnado as one of her dream opponents.
No matter where she lands, Varnado would be a huge asset for any company. And fans seemingly can’t wait to see her back in action!
