Sammy Watkins Has His Mojo Back

Did anyone have a bigger Week 1 than Chiefs wide receiver, Sammy Watkins? The former Clemson first round pick has largely been disappointing in the NFL either not being productive or being injured. Watkins couldn’t be stopped in Week 1. 9 catches, 198 yards, and 3 touchdowns. Watkins was a monster and Jacksonville had no answer for him.

The game was a big confidence boost for Watkins. He has his mojo back:

“Just playing fast,” Watkins said, via Albert Breer of SI.com. “It was like the third play, but Pat made eye-contact with me and I knew it was coming. After I caught the ball, I’m like, ‘Yeah, this is what I do. I’m gonna finish this play.’ That’s something I worked on: my focus in the offseason. The same things I was doing in high school and college, I think I got that mojo back. That confidence to go out there and make plays and make moves.”

MOJO, BABY! C’mon, there’s only one thing that comes to mind here. Watkins has been watching some Austin Powers. Maybe he was banging a couple of fraus. Doesn’t matter. Watkins got his mojo back! It’s about damn time. He got evil at just the right time. It would be nice if he finally started earning his $48 million contract.

The Chiefs are going to need him. Tyreek Hill is set to miss a few weeks because of a shoulder injury. Watkins is the number one receiver now. Mecole Hardman needs to step up too. Kansas City is counting on the 2nd round pick from Georgia faster than they would have liked to.

Let’s see if Watkins can keep his mojo going. He’s looking like a major fantasy sleeper and steal. Especially if he can keep up this insane production. Whatever he’s doing off the field, keep doing it.
