Sam Howell Is Getting Murdered Every Week And Nobody Cares

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised at the feedback I’ve gotten on my post about Eric Bieniemy but I find it laughable. Frankly, I can’t believe that there is a single person in America defending Bieniemy today. He’s gotten his opportunity and we’re all watching it play out. The truth of the matter is, Sam Howell is getting murdered every single week and nobody cares.

Howell has been sacked 55 times this year through 12 games. 55 times. How is that deemed as acceptable? That’s while Washington calls a pass play a league high 68% of the time. Bieniemy is getting his quarterback killed and nobody cares.

Head coaching job? How can anybody think Bieniemy deserves a job after this? The only thing the guy deserves is a slap. If I was Sam Howell’s father, I would have already fought the guy on the spot for getting my kid killed.

I understand that Washington’s offensive line is brutal. Guess what? The Dolphins’ offensive line stinks too. Miami has given up the third least amount of sacks in the NFL (1.3 per game). Mike McDaniel has done everything in his power to protect Tua Tagovailoa with a bad line. Can you imagine if Tua played for Bieniemy? I think he might have died… especially with the concussion past that he has. The funny part is uneducated people would probably still defend Bieniemy.

Where is the adjustment? Sean Payton is a real head coach. His team stinks and in a classic Bill Parcells fashion, he’s molded his team around what they can and can’t do. He’s taken Russell Wilson out of the gameplan to make sure he doesn’t beat them. The ‘Let Russ Cook’ narrative has died. Payton takes his field goals and runs the ball. That’s a team that’s gotten better as the season has gone along.

There is no adjustment by Bieniemy. It’s the same nonsense every week. He lets Howell get killed every single week and keeps letting it happen. The only thing that Bieniemy has proven is that he’s a Madden coordinator that just calls another pass play. It’s the same thing over and over again. Hey, kid, go win us the game with another dropback pass.

Howell gets killed every week. Is Bieniemy coaching it or allowing it to happen? How is that deemed as acceptable? 55 times this kid has been sacked. That’s not to mention that Howell is a capable runner. He had 828 rushing yards his final year at North Carolina. Imagine if Howell was less mobile?

It’s not just about the sacks. He’s getting hit constantly. Howell is getting hit so often that he’s within striking distance of the all-time record. David Carr got sacked 76 times in 2002, but that was with the expansion Texans that had zero talent. This Commanders team has players, or at least way more players than that Texans team did. Prior to the Thanksgiving game, Washington has allowed allowed 122 pressures, which is second behind only the Giants.

Has Bieniemy done anything about it other than calling another pass play to let his guy get killed? Is he using anybody to help chip so Howell has more protection back there? You’re all seeing it. He’s a Madden coordinator who somehow thinks he has Patrick Mahomes back there to go play hero ball with no line. That’s not coaching.

Want to hear something more hilarious? Brian Robinson Jr. ranks 4th among all running backs in fantasy points and Washington calls a run play the least amount of times in the NFL. Washington has a good back. Bieniemy isn’t managing the game. It’s pass, pass, pass – let Howell get killed. Then punt the ball back and let the defense get gassed. Ron Rivera isn’t excused from criticism but Bieniemy is part of the problem and a big reason why this team has 4 wins.

It’s incredibly frustrating because Howell has proven that he has talent. We’re all watching the games. Out of all of the quarterbacks from that 2022 NFL Draft, the former North Carolina product has the most potential. I had him ranked third that year, but I think Howell has clearly proven he has way more juice than Kenny Pickett does. Howell has a good arm, is mobile, and tough. Imagine how good he could be if he wasn’t getting his face beat into the ground every week?

We’re watching a young quarterback with promise get murdered every week and nobody cares. Instead, we throw a pity party for a piss-poor coach for not getting a head coaching job. It’s a joke.
